New Race in Reno on St. Patrick’s Day

by ryan on February 26, 2013

On the morning of St. Patrick’s Day this year, there will be a 5K run and walk in Reno’s Midtown and the Wells Avenue neighborhoods that will have at least one leprechaun racing in it.

The inaugural Leprechaun Chase will start at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday March 17, 2013.  It will be a 5K (3.1 mile) run and walk.  The race will start and end by the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum.

“We are excited to add the Leprechaun Chase to the Northern Nevada running scene,” said Eric Lerude, the event’s race director.  “This will be a great opportunity for runners and walkers of all abilities and ages to come together for a fun run in two of Reno’s most distinct and vibrant neighborhoods, Midtown and the Wells Avenue District.”

There will be an official leprechaun who will race the entire field.  He will give the field a generous head start.  Those who beat him to the finish line will earn a special prize.

“Having the leprechaun race everyone should make it even more fun.  We won’t be surprised if there are a lot of people dressed like leprechauns running in the event that morning.”

The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum will receive a portion of the net proceeds.  The museum will receive additional funds for every participant who the leprechaun passes.

Packet pick-up will be on Saturday March 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Junkee Clothing Exchange on South Virginia Street.

Entry fees are between $25 or $30 depending on when you register.  Entry fees for youth aged 18 and below are as little as $15.  The last date to register is March 16.  There will not be race day registration.

Every registrant will receive free admission into the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum on race day.

The Leprechaun Chase is being produced by Race178, a Reno race production company.  Race178’s signature event is the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay Run Adventure.

Interested runners, walkers, volunteers, sponsors and vendors should visit www.race178.com/leprechaunchase to learn more about the event and to register.  To learn more about Race178 and all of their events, please visit www.race178.com.
